What is the IN OFFICE course?
The IN OFFICE course is an in-person training course in office-based ENT surgery for breathing disorders. The second edition takes place from 10 to 12 December 2026 at Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça, Funchal. It combines lectures, live surgery with the patient awake under local anaesthesia, and hands-on training on models.
About the courseWho is the course for? Can residents attend?
The course is for ENT specialists, ENT residents in their final years of training, sleep surgeons and rhinologists, and heads of ENT departments considering an office procedure room. Residents are welcome and have a reduced fee.

The programme covers Balloon sinus dilation and balloon assisted sinus surgery; Eustachian tube dysfunction; Turbinoplasty; Surgical management of the nasal valve; Surgical management of nasal nerves in chronic rhinitis; Fluid rhinoplasty; Chronic rhinosinusitis and biologics; In-office laryngeal surgery: vocal fold augmentation, blue laser TNL and benign laryngeal lesions; Transnasal oesophagoscopy (TNO); Anaesthesia for laryngeal procedures and non-operating room anaesthesia (NORA); Migraine in the ENT clinic and the role of SPG; Setting up in-office surgery in an ENT service.
Course programmeWhat does office-based or in-office ENT surgery mean?
Office-based ENT surgery means performing selected procedures in a clinic procedure room under local anaesthesia, with the patient awake, instead of in an operating theatre under general anaesthesia. It requires careful patient selection, adapted anaesthesia protocols and a prepared team.
Is there live surgery? How is patient privacy handled?
Yes. Live surgery is performed with the patient awake and transmitted to the course room. Patients give informed consent, and transmission follows the hospital's privacy and data protection rules.
How many participants are accepted?
Registration is limited to 40 participants so that every doctor has time at the hands-on stations. When seats are taken, a waiting list opens on the registration page.
What language is the course taught in?
The course is taught in English. Lectures, live surgery commentary and hands-on instruction are all delivered in English.
How much does it cost and what is included?
The fee is 500 EUR for residents and 800 EUR for specialists. The fee includes event participation, lunch and coffee breaks.

Where is the venue and how do I get to Madeira?
The venue is Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça, a public hospital of SESARAM in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal. Madeira Airport (FNC) has direct flights from Lisbon, Porto and several European cities, and the transfer to Funchal takes about 20 to 30 minutes.
